Line/copy editing

Line/copy editing examines word choice, sentence construction, repetition, and cohesion. as well as checks spelling, grammar, punctuation, verb tenses, and adherence to the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition.

Special attention is paid to Conscious Language, a term coined by Karen Yin, who started the website Conscious Style Guide. Conscious Language is “language rooted in critical thinking and compassion, used skillfully in a specific context.” Writers are encouraged to consider the language they use, focusing on their intent and how readers may receive the message.

Each edited manuscript is returned with a style sheet that includes consistency-oriented information, a note of encouragement, and general observations on the work.
